Sandy Towne
with the nurturing and encouragement of both her parents, she
developed a fearless attitude toward artistic challenges.  After
telling her father she wanted to be able to draw like him, her
parents told her “keep practicing.”  The family even had a
drawing game that “one person would start with a line and the
next person would add to it, until they (we) had a picture to
guess on.”
Later, Sandy became an entrepreneur and opened a craft store
called “Sandy’s Around the Corner.”  After being peppered with
requests from her customers to teach oil painting classes, she
bought a book called “Landscapes with a 49 cent brush” by
Murray Eckles, and taught herself to paint in oil!  An art
instructor led her to acrylics when the drying time for oils
proved to be too much and husband Marvin inspired her to add
watercolors to her repertoire.  “Many people have influenced
me in art, but I have pretty much done the painting by trial and
error,” she said.
Sandy is currently a Registered Nurse at St. Mary Corwin
Hospital and getting ready to retire from a career that began
nearly a half century ago.
Today, Sandy’s work is inspired by her granddaughter and, in
her novelty pieces, you can see the whimsy and joy.  She still
does “serious” art but she is happy to provide people with a
reason to smile.  She has two children, both of whom are
artists, and a granddaughter.  She and husband Marvin own
Horseshoe Stable Art Studio.
